Philosophy
I try to understand the ordinary--how each moment actually creates our life experiences. I'm fascinated by neuroplasticity, particularly how changes in lifestyle (e.g. movement, diet, and thought patterns) can change the brain and body.
When I started practicing, yoga offered a space where I could direct energy to what I wanted in my life while letting everything else seemingly melt away.
My instruction draws on the principle that good health is a balanced connection between mind, body, and spirit. My classes integrate breath into movement with the aim of cultivating the mental and physical strength and awareness to release limiting habitual patterns in order to calm the nervous system. My teaching techniques draw from iyengar, ashtanga, kripalu, kundalini, vinyasa, thai yoga massage and theatre movement. I use intuition, sound practices, guided visualizations, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, breath-work, essential oils and music.
Through movement, breathing, and relaxation techniques, my classes aim to:
increase stress resilience
renew energy
relieve pain
balance emotions
cultivate self-intimacy
improve mental focus
I believe that sustainable change stems from a true understanding of oneself and how one wants to show up in the world. Every day, people can choose to grow, and to focus on the practices and attitudes that enable us to cultivate and sustain healthy transformation. My goal is to help others realign with their authentic selves--that internal truth that is constant, whole and connected to all living beings and exists outside the ego (particularly identification with roles, titles, emotions or stories).
